Nine Things I Learned
Jun. 7th, 2003 08:50 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I learned three things playing Monopoly today.
1. Paige Guthrie is the Evil Queen of Free Parking.
2. Alex Summers is a dangerous man around a railroad.
3. I'm not nearly as good at Monopoly as I thought I was.
I also learned three things about juggling today.
1. It's harder than it looks.
2. Conversely, I am getting better with practice.
3. I'd better get a lot better with practice before we graduate to clubs because for some reason anything I drop lands on my toe.
Finally, I learned three things going to temple last night.
1. Vintage Jaguars are the coolest thing ever, and pulling up in one, particularly given the company I was in, draws dirty looks from all sorts of guys even if you're not even riding shotgun, much less driving. Heh.
2. Ms. Frost knows the best ice cream place in the world, unless and until Bobby opens his, in which case she will then know the two best ice cream places in the world.
3. I think we're supposed to be like Ruth. Coming here, I mean. Sort of, anyway. But I'm still thinking about that, and it's sort of a nebulous comparison, so I suppose I shouldn't say that's one of the things I learned exactly. But it kind of occurred to me during the reading. I'm glad I went.
And now I'm gonna go make a snack run before I get a reputation for introspection. Wonder if Artie's in the mood for pudding.

Introspection can be a good thing.

Well, in moderation, yeah. Y'know, I read a book once where one of the characters had the philosophy "Everything in moderation, including moderation." Kinda interesting to think about, although I don't think I could live by it.
. . . Anything I can do?

I don't do moderation to well. Character flaw, I think.

Plant trees tomorrow?

Well, I usually end up more in line with the sayings one of the other characters uses; there's a lot of them, but one of my favorites is "I always have a fallback position whenever I take a risk. If all else fails, I'll die horribly, at great length, and in great pain. Mind you, it's not a good fallback position..."
It's a pretty funny series.
And I already told Mr. Summers I'm available to help. :)

Can I borrow those books? I'm curious now. Heh.

Sure. There's . . . let's see, ten of them now? And then there's a duology I like by the same guy, except set in a different world. One of the things I like about them is they mix funny and dramatic and philosophical really well.
So I can set you up for a while, is what I'm saying.

I'll remember to put that on my buisness cards.

You should. That way you won't blindside any more poor unsuspecting kids from Kansas with your Monopoly skills, and I might get away with the shirt on my back. :)

Growing up a Guthrie requires mean Monopoly skills.
Which I'm sure you figured out. ;)

I did get that message, yeah. Had a good vantage on the game, there, sitting in jail. :)
